Quick Start - Setup Wizard and Installation Settings

Help Table of Contents

During the installation of the Silverthorne Shipping Saver, a setup wizard will take you through several Tabs where you will personalize the configuration settings for your business.

Business Info Tab

The setup wizard will take you to the Business Info Tab shown in the screen shot below.  This is where you will enter the information about your business.  All fields are required to be filled in except the fields marked optional.  Your logo graphic file name is the name of a file containing your company logo that will be printed on receipts, invoices, and business reports.  The logo file is optional and can be entered at a later time.  A sample logo.jpg file is supplied in the shipping saver application directory.  Your logo image should be roughly the same size as the sample file (80x140 pixels).  If you do not yet have a logo file, just leave the field blank.  Another optional field is the Suite or Floor field.  If there is no suite or floor in your business address, just leave this field blank.  Once you have filled in the fields for the Business Info Tab, click the "Next >" button to continue.

The screen shot below shows sample business information.

Once you have filled in the fields with the information for your business, click the "Next >" button to continue.

Hardware Settings Tab

The setup wizard will take you to the Hardware Settings Tab shown in the screen shot below. This is where you will specify which type of digital shipping scale you have.  A digital shipping scale is not required.  If you have a digital shipping scale, choose your scale type in the scale type drop down list.  Then choose the scale port in the scale port drop down list.  You will also select your thermal printer name if you have a thermal printer.

Please also see specific instructions for the hardware settings tab.

Once the settings listed above are set, click the "Next >" button to continue.

FedEx Account Settings

To ship with FedEx, you will need to create a FedEx account by visiting the FedEx website at www.fedex.com if you do not already have a FedEx account. Once you have a FedEx account number, enter it in the Account number field for FedEx as shown in the screen shot below. You may also enter an optional value for the Department field.  The department value will be associated with this FedEx account and will help you remember which account this is, if you have multiple FedEx account numbers.  For example, some companies might have a separate FedEx account number for each area of their business. Now click the Add Account button to register your FedEx account with the Silverthorne Shipping Saver and FedEx.

The first screen of the FedEx Registration Wizard will be displayed as shown below.

Read the entire agreement by slowly scrolling the vertical scroll bar downward. Click Yes to accept the FedEx terms and conditions. Then click the Finish button to continue.

A message will be displayed as shown below. Click OK to close the dialog.

You will now see the FedEx account listed that you added with the Silverthorne Shipping Saver and FedEx. See screen shot below. You can add additional FedEx account numbers by entering the additional FedEx account number in the field shown below and then clicking the Add Account button. If you have no additional FedEx account numbers to add, click the Cancel button to close the Setup Wizard.

The Shipping Saver has now stored your FedEx Account information in its database to be ready for printing FedEx labels.

You are now able to start printing shipping labels.

User Accounts/USPS Tab

To print USPS labels, there are two choices:

  1. Print USPS labels with no postage printed on the label
  2. Integrate with Endicia premium service with Dazzle to print labels with postage printed on the label

The first option will print the label but you will be required to buy postage and put it on the package. This option might be perfect for you if you already have a Pitney Bowes postage machine, or if you don't mind buying postage at the Post Office.

The second option requires you to have an Endicia premium account (www.endicia.com) with a monthly service fee of $15.95. Enidicia is a separate company from Silverthorne Software. The Endicia account enables the Silverthorne Shipping Saver to work seamlessly with Endicia's Dazzle software which will print postal labels with postage printed on the label.

To set up the Silverthorne Shipping Saver for option 1, choose the selection None as shown in the screen shot below.  To select option 2, please click the link above for option 2 for integrating with Endicia.
