Unable to Open Com Port ERROR during Activation

<P>How I solved the "Unable to Open Com Port" ERROR on my system. <BR><BR>I have the DW-50BPL scale running Windows XP pro, I was getting the yellow Exclamation mark in device manager "CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller" and the same error "unable to open Com port" when I clicked activate scale. <BR><BR>I went to Device Manager and found I had an entry I think it was called "other devices" with "CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller" in it and both had a yellow Exclamation mark on them "Driver not installed" <BR><BR>I also had and entry under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" called CP210x USB Composite Device" that was installed fine. <BR><BR>I tried quite a few ways to get the listing with the Yellow Exclamation mark to install with no success. Then I thought …try Windows update and that worked, it installed and under "Ports (COM &amp; LPT)" there was a listing "CP210X USB to UART Bridge Controller (COM 3)" or what ever you’re "Com number will be". When I went to click Activate Scale there was no more error. <BR><BR>Now how I did this was Navigate to "Device manager" how to get there. <BR><BR>"Click Start/Right click MY Computer/Click Manage/Click Device Manager". <BR><BR>If it’s not expanded (It should be but maybe not) click the Plus sign next too this device with the yellow Exclamation Mark. <BR><BR>Right click the device with the yellow Exclamation mark/Click Properties/Then Driver Tab/ Click the "Update Driver Button". <BR><BR>Now the "Welcome to the hardware update wizard" screen will come up, put a tick in "Yes this time only" to search Windows Update for the driver and click next. <BR><BR>On the next screen make sure "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" is selected and click next. <BR><BR>When it’s finished everything should be installed and in Device Manager under "Ports (COM &amp; LPT) there will be a listing <BR><BR>"CP210X USB to UART Bridge Controller (COM 3)" or whatever your "COM Number is" But there should be no "Yellow Exclamation or Question Marks Now" and when you open the DIGI Software and Click the "Activate Scale" button you should not get the Error "Unable to Open Com Port". <BR></P><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT>
